Attention all Bloggers !

by roynelson @ Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 - 12:37:33

copied by request.

Bloggers are being asked to show their support for freedom of expression by Amnesty International.

The human rights group also wants web log writers to highlight the plight of fellow bloggers jailed for what they wrote in their online journals.

The organisation said fundamental rights such as free speech faced graver threats than ever before.

The campaign coincides with the start of a week-long UN-organised conference that will debate the future of the net.

Watching words

"Freedom of expression online is a right, not a privilege - but it's a right that needs defending," said Steve Ballinger of Amnesty International. "We're asking bloggers worldwide to show their solidarity with web users in countries where they can face jail just for criticising the government."

Mr Ballinger said the case of Iranian blogger Kianoosh Sanjari was just one example of the dangers that some online writers can face. Mr Sanjari was arrested in early October following his blogging about conflicts between the Iranian police and the supporters of Shia cleric Ayatollah Boroujerdi.

Amnesty wanted bloggers to publicise cases such as this, said Mr Ballinger, and to declare their backing for the right to free speech online.

The human rights group is also taking its campaign to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) - a group set up by the UN to act as a debating body for national net policies. The first big meeting of the IGF takes place in Athens from 30 October to 2 November.

"The Internet Governance Forum needs to know that the online community is concerned about free expression online and willing to stand up for it," said Mr Ballinger.

Many governments were using technology to suppress the free flow of information among their citizens, said Mr Ballinger.

"People have been locked up just for expressing their views in an email or a website," he said. "Sites and blogs have been shut down and firewalls built to prevent access to information."

Hi-tech firms such as Yahoo and Google have been criticised for the help they have given to nations such as China which works hard to monitor online discussion.

In May 2006, Amnesty International started a campaign that aimed to expose the ways that governments use the net to quash dissent. Co-ordinated via the Irrepressible.info website, the campaign asks websites to use an icon displaying text from censored sites.

Pledges gathered from those backing this campaign will be presented at the IGF.

The begining of the Housing Crash ?

by roynelson @ Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 - 11:23:17

I live in London, where the cost of housing has always been high.

Over the last three/four years, the prices have risen all over the country.
My home town,in Shropshire, has seen prices double in this time.Leaving first-time buyers out in the cold.

High house prices benefit no-one but Estate Agents and Goverment.
It may bring some joy to people that their homes are worth £200,000 and more.Until they sell and need another !

The insanity of it all was bought home to me when our neighbour sold her 1 bedroom Mews house for £250,000.
A quarter of a million pounds for a shoebox !

Anyway,in Washington, usa, the price of a brand new home has fallen by 10% in the last year.
Even with this saving, sales activity is down 15% on last year.

This is worrying financial Institutions in America and the UK,as their bouyant economies are,in part,
being fueled by low interest rates and high mortage repayments.

To keep inflation low and stop the economies going into 'overheat',the Banks will raise interest rates.
This will lead to problems as many people have borrowed beyond their means to pay for their home.
A couple of points rise will mean severe financial problems for these people-almost immediately.

I remember the housing crash of the 1980's and the worry and misery it caused.
Then,it only affected the poor of this country.
A crash today, may have more far reaching consequences for the over stretched economies of both Britain and America,
burdened by the huge cost of the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

love+light

Only in the UK. I hope ! .

by roynelson @ Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 - 03:27:35

Yet again, someone released early from prison goes on to commit more criminal acts.
And more murders !

Mark Goldsmith,31,was jailed in 2001 for killing his lover.
He battered her to death, after the married woman refused to leave her husband for him.

For this murder he was given 7 years in jail !?

The authorities then allowed Goldsmith out on licence after serving only 4 years !

He befriended a woman and her family,in the Midlands.
Forming a relationship with the eldest daughter, who had just turned 16.

The teenager told friends, that Goldsmith became more possessive and jealous and she decided to end the relationship.

Goldsmith made phone calls and sent text messages demanding to see her.
He even told her that he had a brain tumour,in the hope of sympathy.

In March,he entered the house and while the family slept,he doused the ground floor with petrol and started a fire.

The teenager, her two brothers and sister died in the fire !!
The mother was working that night at a care home.

Am I alone in thinking that something is terribly wrong with our legal system ?
How can someone commit murder,go to jail then be out to kill again 5 years later ?

The Lunatics have truly taken over the asylum.

Thinking of buying a Chinese Motorcycle ?

by roynelson @ Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 - 19:34:03

As some of you already know,I work with motorcycles in the west london area.

Browsing the dealer magazines that are sent to us,I see many adverts for motorbikes made in China.
Compared to the price of Japanese and Italian Motorbikes and Scooters, they appear an absolute bargain.
In some cases, they are a third of the price of the Japanese equivalent.

Once a week,at least,I am getting calls from people desperate for help with their brand new machines.
All we can help with is punctures and even then we are loathe to.

Why ?Because the bikes are rubbish.
They literally fall apart in your hands, and spares are non existent.
We have made it policy not to entertain them.
Along with all the other motorcycle shops in the area.

Im suprised that the DoT have passed them as fit for the road.
They are not !

The Dealers selling them are already closing down after making their money and leaving customers with no legal comeback.

My advice to anyone considering buying Chinese is DONT.

Orange Broadband.

by roynelson @ Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 - 18:29:06

Its been a bad day for Orange broadband customers, with at least 250,000 customers without an Internet connection since 4pm on Monday.

Users in Lancashire,Surrey and London had to report their problems via Internet message boards.

An Orange spokesperson said only customers who used exchange equipment installed by third parties, instead of BT, were affected.

All well and good then.
But who was it that installed the equipment that failed.

Orange themselves !

Im a believer in the Laws of Karma.

If people act badly, then bad things happen to THEM.

I believe the same thing applies to organisations.

To the Laws of Karma,I say Thank You.

The New World Order !

by roynelson @ Monday, Oct. 16, 2006 - 21:58:40

"It is a big idea: a new world order... only the United States has both the moral standing and means to back it up."

Who do you think said this ?

Yes none other than the father of todays President.

Former President George Bush, State of Union address, Jan. 29, 1991

It was George senior that started the War in Iraq all those years ago.

Is the son just fulfilling the wishes of his father ?

Lloyds the Chemists. What are you doing ?

by roynelson @ Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 - 23:12:56

Just when i thought it couldnt get any worse.

A Rotherham woman was refused the morning after pill by her local chemist.
She was told that the pharmacist objected to selling them on 'religious grounds'.
The pharmacist in question relayed his descision via his assistant.

The woman then saw her GP and obtained it.

A spokesperson for Lloyds, the chemist supported the pharmacist, saying:
"If the pill is contrary to a pharmacist's personal, religious or moral beliefs they are within their rights not to supply it".

In my opinion, the pharmacist was wrong.

If the mans beliefs were truly that strong, then he should have just asked the assistant to deal with the customer.
Or,at least, have the professionalism and courtesy to explain his reasons himself.

Why Lloyds are supporting the pharmacist is most strange too.

One of their employee's refused to sell THEIR product.
How does that work ?
Lloyds are in business to make a profit.
They make their money by stocking their shops with goods and selling them on-at a profit !

Lloyds should have taken action against the pharmacist and apologised to the customer.

Im a man and was told, first by my mother, then by others, that it is a females RIGHT to decide what happens with THEIR bodies.

Lloyds have taken the cowards route by supporting the pharmacist.
Religious grounds !
They just havent thought this through.
He should have been SACKED for not doing his job.

Disappointed !

This wouldnt happen in my World.

by roynelson @ Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 - 21:11:34

Yet another example of incompetence regarding our Legal system.

Judge John Wait heard the case of Stephen Connell,in Derby.

Connell, who was already banned from the road for having two drink/drive convictions, decided to ride his Quad bike.
Whilst drunk !

He placed a Three year old girl on the petrol tank and drove off !

Then smashed straight into the front of a car.

The little girl was killed in the crash !

The Judge told Connell he had shown "reckless and criminal stupidity".

The charge against Stephen Connell could have meant a 14 year prison sentence.

Judge John Wait jailed him for FOUR years !

To the Petrol Thieves of W9,London

by roynelson @ Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 - 19:27:46

Im writing this for the petrol thieves of W9.

As you have discovered the motorbikes that I park at the end of the Mews,I figure that You are known to us !

Worse,we have probably helped you out at least once.
If you have used our services in the past-you WILL know that we will always help people.

If you need petrol (or anything),you only have to ask !

I now have to spend an hour on each bike.
Checking everything,in case you have disturbed more than the petrol lines.
My work is stressfull enough, without having to worry about what damage you are doing in the early hours of the morning.

Please-just ask.

I may ask you to do us a favour in return.
I may not.

But,I will STILL help you out !

Thank You.

For the last 10 years I accuse you...

by roynelson @ Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 - 22:36:48

Siabreen,Adam Fairclough,Alison Gelfand and Marion Wills.

It is TEN years ago today that i left siabreen.

A whole decade !

It is also 10 years since i last saw my daughter. My beautiful, darling Grace.
What a waste.

A child without her Father and,for the last two years, without her Mother too.

During these years i have learnt many things.

How petty and small and miserable certain people can be !
How people will band together and lie and scheme !
Not even for any great reward, lest being 'right'.
Even when they are so obviously WRONG.

I have also learnt forgiveness.

For many of these past years i have been in despair.
The pain of being seperated from my child has led to mental unhealth.
Isolating myself from the world for long periods.
Not willing to unleash my rightous anger for fear of hurting others.

I thank my many friends who have supported me during this time.
Without you i would have been another suicide,or inmate in prison.

Ten years on,i feel the pain of seperation still,
yet i am safe in the knowledge that i am loved and respected.

My daughter,Grace,is now 13.
The time will come when she will set out to find me,i hope and pray.

Tis such a shame that we were seperated in the first place.

What a ride !

by roynelson @ Monday, Oct. 09, 2006 - 22:47:03

God,it is so good to get out of London, even for a couple of days.

I spent the weekend in Surrey.
Just resting and it felt so good.

i rode a yamaha fazer 1000 down there and boy was i impressed !
i have lots of experience with the fazer 600.
an easy bike to ride, good handling with great brakes.
but bland.
it does everything that it says on the packet.

i thought the 1000 would be the same.
how wrong was 1.
she pulls like a train and being the big brute she is
you have to grab it by the scruff of the neck to ride.

my kind of riding yahoo.

i intend to get out of the city on a bike every weekend.
even if it is raining lol.

The War THEY dont want us to know about.

by roynelson @ Wednesday, Oct. 04, 2006 - 23:01:46

In the last eight weeks,228 people been killed by Israeli forces in Palestine.
37 of them Children.

It appears that Israel, angry at the bloody nose handed to them by Lebanon, are taking their spite out on the Palestinians.
Why arent these reports reaching our TV screens and Newspapers ?

The War,or ethnic cleansing as it is really called,is indefensible.
So the story does not get told.

Israel have been trickle feeding water to Palestine for years. Now they are pulling the plug on electricity, hitting Gaza especially.

There is no doubt that Israel are targetting civilians.
Whether,by continued air strikes against palestinian villages,or by "collective punishment" through the power outages.
This is against the Geneva Convention !

Yet,this is happening NOW.

The Western world remain silent in their condemnation of Israel.
We should be SCREAMING !
